Zermatt, premium Swiss ski resort at the foot of the Matterhorn (14,700 ft, the most recognised Alpine summit): 5800 inhabitants, car-free village (electric taxis, horse-drawn carriages), accessible only by train from Täsch. July is my favorite month (8.0/10): 48-66°F, 36% rain, alpine hiking in high summer.
