Our verdict
Wengen, Swiss village ski resort without cars (accessible only by Wengernalpbahn 1893 cogwheel train from Lauterbrunnen): 1300 inhabitants at 1274m, spectacular view of the Jungfrau (4158m). August is my favourite month (7.6/10): 12-20°C, 51% rain in altitude storms, alpine hiking, views from the Mannlichen platform 2230m.
